Ping – The Ultimate Social Proof Engine

Sep 02 2010 Published by SubVee under Interestingness

Mr Jobs, you may have saved the music industry… or drove people away. Why? Ping.

Ping is cleverly disguised social proof machine and you can’t fake it before you make it around here. If you have put your money where your mouth is and bought your music from iTunes then it will show up on Ping. So in doing this, iTunes becomes the first place you think of to buy your music so it shows up in Ping. Clever hey?

But what about all the specialist music you don’t get on iTunes or you feel like buying directly from the artist/record company or even, you love music but you don’t like iTunes? These are all valid reasons why you may not want to participate in Ping.

We’re becoming more and more socially aware these days and for iTunes and Ping to latch onto that is extremely clever however there are shades of music fans who are not as black and while as iTunes wants them to be. I guess they’re going for the 80% pop/rock lovers who want to shout about the latest music they’ve downloaded… but if it’s that special, iTunes may not have it… then where does that leave you? An very sparse Ping account. It’s either all of nothing for Ping. You buy everything from there or you don’t. You’re not getting the whole musical picture by following Ping accounts which is a big shame.

Partnering with Last.FM would be good to show what you’ve been listening to or linking with your Twitter account to share music you love would be a great addition to Ping so unless you have bought everything you own that’s music related on iTunes, it’s may be another social network you can do without… yet.

Let me know what your experiences are with Ping. Does it do what you want it to do? How about the no nick names policy? Where else do you buy your music? Or are you a Last.FM kinda person?

S.P.Y. – By Your Side – Unofficial Video

Aug 21 2010 Published by SubVee under D&B Knowledge, Tunes

This is the tune I’m most excited about being released this year, an absolutely beautiful piece of drum and bass by S.P.Y. The strings, the vocals and the driving bassline – perfection.

Logistics is doing a lil remix for the B so that’s gonna be another treat.
