I’ve got a terrible habit of stumbling upon mixes that I download and never get round to listening to and this one is no exception, sorry Dom & Roland. Anyway, I’ve just banged this on and Jeez, it’s one hell of a mix. Dom & Roland is a legend in my eyes and was one of the first DJ/Producers I just had to get hold of everything he’d done.

Now I can’t find the original post where I got this from on KMag (sorry guys) so I’ve got the download link from the www.dubplatedigest.net site which is awesome if you get a chance to check it out.

I’m only half way through reading this and I think it’s the most influential interview I’ve read and an essential read for anyone wanting to get into producing. I’m only a wannabe producer at the moment but I just feel so inspired after reading this. It’s also a sneaky insight into the inspiration into the tracks you thought you knew what they were about It’s quite a long and in depth interview so grab a cuppa (it’s cold out there tonight) and have a butchers!

“What’s the key to producing drum & bass?

The key to an original d&b production is listening to as much music as possible for inspirations and then doing sound analyzing on your favourite drum & bass vinyl. Your brain finds a way to combine all kinds of genres and make something new out of it. You should have a feeling for broken beats on high speed”

The new Knowledge Magazine is packed full of back issues, blogs, news and splendid interviews such as the recent one with Syncopix aka The Producer’s Producer. It’s definitely a valuable read if you’re wanting to get into producing or even if you’re already knocking out some decent tuneage.
